The Mathematics Department (currently Mathematics and Computer Applications) was established in 1976 as part of the Department of Applied Sciences. The duration of the program was initially four years, and it was named the “Applied Mathematics Branch” at the time. In the academic year 2014-2015, the curriculum was revised to include courses related to computer applications, leading to the renaming of the department to “Mathematics and Computer Applications.” Graduates of the department receive a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Applications. They are scientifically proficient in teaching mathematics at schools, institutes, and universities, as well as in computer labs in both public and private universities. They can also work as programmers, accountants in government and private banks, data entry clerks, data analysts, or statisticians in government agencies and the private sector.

Vision:

To be an innovative, pioneering, and effective branch within the Department of Applied Sciences and the Mathematics Departments of Iraqi universities.

Mission:

To prepare scientific cadres that rely on practical and technical knowledge at a distinguished educational level, aligning with national and international quality and accreditation standards. This is achieved through conducting research, studies, and providing consultations that serve the university, as well as the local and regional community.

Objectives:

– To prepare applied scientific cadres equipped with the fundamentals of scientific, social, and technical knowledge, capable of analytical and creative thinking.
– To continuously develop undergraduate programs to meet the requirements of local development programs and the needs of the community.
– To focus on applied scientific research, playing a pivotal role in addressing community problems and supporting researchers and the requirements of scientific research.
– To support graduate studies in other branches within the faculty and encourage the creation of new specialized programs that meet the needs of the faculty and keep pace with global scientific and technological advancements.
– To continually develop the capabilities of faculty members, technical staff, and administrative workers in the branch.
– To monitor the performance of graduates and assess their contributions to community service post-graduation, while planning future strategies for expanding and enhancing community engagement.
